At First Street Yoga, we teach
asana and pranayama (the physical and breathing exercises of yoga)
in the Iyengar tradition. This method emphasizes precise alignment
to create a balanced body, healthy joints, and to avoid injury.
We use simple props, such as blankets, blocks and chairs, to make
asanas accessible to people of all levels of fitness and flexibility.
The benefits of a regular yoga practice are often felt soon after
beginning and may include reduction in chronic pain, increased digestive
and respiratory functions, and increased energy. The physical and
emotional skills we develop in our yoga practice carry forward into
our lives, reducing fatigue, countering stress, increasing ease
of movement and enhancing performance in our favorite sports.
