class descriptions

L1: Level 1 is for students new to alignment based yoga as well as continuing students. Students will learn the correct actions for the basic asanas and will develop an understanding of healthy posture and movement. The fundamentals of yoga philosophy will complement our physical practice.

L2: Level 2 is for students already comfortable with the basic asanas of Level 1. We will explore a wider range of postures including inversions, seated poses and beginning backbends.

L3 Intensives: Level 3 Intensive is for experienced students. Students should be comfortable in head balance, shoulder balance, and kicking up into full arm balance.

Yoga Philosophy Discussions: These on-going discussions are designed to deepen our understanding of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Everyone is welcome to join us for these informal talks.

Winter session, we’ll focus our investigation around the idea of balance. What do we mean when we speak of balance and why would we seek balance? What do we learn when we make the effort to balance, physically in a posture or more generally in how we live our lives?

Spring session, we will focus on our relationships with others. What are our obligations? What are our personal rights and how do we maintain them? It is particularly interesting to see how this philosophy, designed to guide individual development, views interpersonal relationships and the role they play in the development of the self.
