John Estrem has been practicing Iyengar yoga for 10 years and completed a teacher training program in 2011 with Julie Lawrence. Prior to taking up yoga, John was a long-time member of numerous gyms and regularly exercised using weight machines. He used yoga to correct a lower back problem and soon learned that it could provide both strength AND flexibility. He consequently gave up all weight lifting while pursuing a path of yoga.
John has a B.A. in geology from Pomona College and is a principal at a local environmental engineering and consulting firm in Portland. Understanding the time constraints of a full time job, John is interested in helping students find ways to bring yoga into busy lives.
